info
Leadenhall Market has been situated here from as far back
as the 14th century. The original Leadenhall Market building
was a hall with a leaden roof (hence the name) and was a major
market for meat, game, poultry and fish. Much of the original
Leadenhall Market was destroyed in the Great Fire of London
in 1666. The present wrought iron and glass-roofed buildings
were designed by Horace Jones in 1881. Leadenhall Market is
located at the back of the Lloyd's Building just south of
Leadenhall Street. |
